05-20-2025 - 6:30 AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 95.9% Kemp: 100.0% Kickapoo: 98.7%. Monitored Water Supply Reservoirs are 98.1% full. The City of Wichita Falls uses combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo (97.3%) to determine drought stage.

05-20-2025 - 6:30 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 10,707 Megawatts.

05-20-2025 - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 83. North northwest wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Tonight: Clear, with a low around 59. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the evening.

05-20-2025 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday. The Clay County Amateur Radio Club (Henrietta, Texas) holds a weekly practice net on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM on the 146.800 MHz repeater. As far as I know, all licensed Amateur (ham) Radio operators are invited to check in. Of course, scanner radio enthusiasts can also tune in. I'm hoping band conditions improve on 20 meters so I can make a few Parks on the Air® contacts today. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

5-19-2025 - Two guys are rag-chewing on 151.880 MHz, a Multi-Use Radio Service frequency. These guys are regulars, but I haven't heard them in a week or so. There are also some regulars on 151.820 MHz.

05-19-2025 - At Kirby Junior High, later Kirby Middle School, now closed, a teacher was giving a student a stern "talking to" in the hallway. He told the young man that if his performance did not improve, he would end up being a janitor. Just as the word "janitor" left his lips, he noticed the school janitor standing about 20 feet away. In the same breath, he added "Not that there's anything wrong with being a janitor!" Do you remember those old "Want to get away?" TV commercials featuring people in embarrassing situations? Monitor school handheld radios at 151.940 MHz on your scanner radio.

05-19-2025 - I'm trying to make a couple of Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® contacts, but no one seems to hear me. Although my Yaesu FT 857D will deliver 100 watts on CW (Morse code), I'm running my personal maximum of 25 watts. I'm not a true QRPer (low power operator), running 5 watts or less, nor do I care to run 100 watts, let alone an amplifier. I think 25 watts gets the job done most of the time. If it doesn't, that's okay because it's just a hobby. I'll try again later when band conditions improve. Back to the CB Radio!

05-19-2025 - From my corrections consultant - I ran into a guy at Walmart who said he used to be an Allred Unit Correctional Officer some years back and had just reapplied. He said he didn't want to work in General Population, but rather Administrative Segregation or the Expansion Cellblock, (ECB or "high security"). He said he felt safer there because the offenders "can't get to you." I saw him at the Allred Unit several months later and he wasn't smiling. He had been assigned to General Population. Oh well, he'll get used to it . . . if they don't get him! Monitor Allred Unit operations at 153.815 MHz on your scanner radio.

05-19-2025 - A trucker on CB Radio Channel 19 is warning others that the DOT or someone has scales in use on both sides of U.S. 287 in Iowa Park. Reports that CB Radio is dead among truckers have been greatly exaggerated, at least at the intersection of U.S. 287 and I-44.

01-05-2025 - Some Wichita Falls radio scanning targets: Walmart (154.570 MHz), Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), Wichita County Jail (155.520 MHz), State Hospital (154.800 MHz) city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), WFISD school buses (152.360 MHz), school handheld radios (151.940 MHz), Wichita Valley Airport (122.800 MHz), Kickapoo Airport (122.700 MHz), Wichita Falls Regional Airport / SAFB (119.750 & 122.950 MHz), and the BNSF Railroad (160.920 MHz). MORE!

05-19-2025 - At 8:15 AM, the Wichita County Skywarn® weather spotters gave a weather update on the 146.940 MHz repeater. Depending on your location in Wichita and Clay County, there is a low to moderate risk of severe weather this afternoon. Tune in to these briefings on your scanner radio!

05-19-2025 - I just gave someone a "radio check" on CB Radio Channel 19. Could that be the highlight of my Hobby Radio day? I hope not! Maybe I'll discover the source of that new signal on 151.940 MHz.

05-19-2025 - From my Allred Unit consultant - I don't know which is worse, working a gate when it's 10 degrees outside and the doghouse has a heater you couldn't burn your finger on if you tried, or the same gate when it's 100 degrees outside and you couldn't buy a breeze for a million bucks.

05-19-2025 - From my law enforcement consultant: In the early morning hours, police were dispatched to Hirschi High School on a burglar alarm. There was no burglar, only a young couple doing "you know what" against a door at the back of the building. They were still in the act when officers arrived, pounding against the door so hard the alarm was activated.

05-19-2025 - From my corrections consultant: An Allred Unit Correctional Officer reports that the food cart holding the food trays for the Infirmary was always loaded with tiny roaches. Every day, without fail, when he worked that position. He did report it. Listen to Allred operations on 153.815 MHz on your scanner.
